What Are the Functions of the ASME Flange?

ASME flange, I believe everyone is familiar with, and also knows that it is an indispensable component in the pipeline system, occupying an unshakable important position in the entire pipeline system. We also know that ASME flanges can be combined with ASME flange gaskets and ASME flange bolts to form detachable joints, which can connect stationary pipelines to rotating or reciprocating equipment. So, what is the function of ASME flanges?

Function of ASME flanges

Many people think that ASME flanges are just for connecting pipes in the pipeline system, which are parts that connect shafts to shafts and are used to connect pipe ends. There are also ASME flanges used at the inlet and outlet of equipment for connecting two equipment, such as gearbox ASME flanges. In any case, the function of the ASME flange is to connect. However, what many people do not know is that the function of the ASME flange is not just for connecting, but also for positioning.

An example will make it clear. For example, the installation of an oil cylinder is to drill four symmetric holes around a rectangular prism, with a large hole in the middle that is the same size as the outer diameter of the oil cylinder. Cover the rectangular prism on the oil cylinder and weld it together with other things, and the oil cylinder is connected to other things by the four holes around the rectangular prism. This rectangular prism can be called a ASME flange, and the installation of the oil cylinder is called ASME flange installation. Therefore, the function of the ASME flange here is positioning, which is actually the "fixing" we often talk about, that is, the positioning function of the ASME flange is the fixing function of the ASME flange. By saying this, everyone should understand the positioning function of the ASME flange.

ASME flanges facilitate detection and replacement

In fact, in addition to the connecting and fixing functions, the ASME flange also has a function of facilitating detection and replacement. After all, in the petroleum and chemical industries, pipeline leaks are common due to the influence of temperature, pressure, and corrosive media. In order to identify the problem, ASME flanges need to be removed to see if the problem is caused by the ASME flange, such as ASME flange installation with the wrong mouth or hole, the ASME flange sealing surface is too large, and there are gaps in the connection between the ASME flange and the bolt gasket, etc. Only after a clear inspection can we proceed with further maintenance and care.

If the pipeline leak is caused by a problem with the ASME flange, the ASME flange needs to be replaced promptly. It is worth noting that the material and sealing surface of the ASME flange to be replaced must meet the current pipeline transportation medium requirements, and the selection should also be combined with the ASME flange gasket and ASME flange bolt. Then, the ASME flange needs to be replaced correctly, which includes preparing the tools for replacing the ASME flange (including protective equipment), cleaning the ASME flange sealing surface, replacing the ASME flange, and organizing the tools for replacing the ASME flange.
