Factors to be considered in butterfly valve selection

As the pressure loss of the butterfly valve in the pipeline is relatively large, which is about three times that of the gate valve, when selecting the butterfly valve, the influence of the pressure loss of the pipeline system should be fully considered, and the robustness of the butterfly plate to withstand the pressure of the pipeline medium when it is closed should also be considered. 


In addition, it is necessary to consider the limitation of the working temperature that the elastic valve seat material can withstand at high temperatures.


The structural length and overall height of the butterfly valve are small, the opening and closing speed is fast, and it has good fluid control characteristics. The metal seat can adapt to higher working temperature, while the resilient seat has the defect of temperature limitation. 


If the butterfly valve is required to be used as a flow control, the main thing is to correctly select the size and type of the valve. The structure principle of butterfly valve is especially suitable for producing large-diameter valves.

 

Butterfly valves are not only widely used in general industries such as petroleum, gas, chemical, water treatment, etc., but also used in cooling water systems of thermal power stations. The most commonly used butterfly valves are metal-seated butterfly valves and resilient-seated butterfly valves. 


Wafer type butterfly valve uses double-head bolts to connect flanges of pipelines. Flanged type butterfly valve has flanges on the valve, and the two flange ends of the valve are conntected to theflanges of pipeline with bolts. Butterfly valves are widely used in metallurgy, electric power, petroleum, chemical, air, gas, combustible gas, water supply and drainage and other corrosive media pipelines where the medium temperature is ≤550℃. It is a device for adjusting flow and cutting off fluid.


Working conditions suitable for butterfly valve

  • For resilient-seated butterfly valves, the seat can be replaced, the sealing performance is reliable to achieve two-way sealing with zero leakage, aging resistance, corrosion resistance, and long service life.

  • The metal-seated butterfly valve, the sealing ring is made of stainless steel, which has the dual advantages of metal hard sealing and elastic sealing. It has excellent sealing performance, corrosion resistance and long service life regardless of low temperature and high temperature.

  • For three-eccentric butterfly valve, three-dimensional braided structuremakes the butterfly plate tighter and tighter, its sealing performance is reliable, and could ensure no leakage, high pressure resistance, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and long service life.
